Me: [Sees a post on the fediverse that contains a critical undertone or explicit criticism.]

Brain: This is about you.

Me: [Clicks on the post to expand the thread. It's about the director of a TV show.]

Brain: Oh. Well, it could have been about you. You never know.

Me: I need you to understand that I am not a general topic of public conversation. People aren't thinking about me like I'm some kind of public figure. There is no conspiracy in which people online are making subtoots and subskeets to communicate information about me amongst one another in a public way. Every time you've insisted there is, I check the post, expand the thread, and check the replies, and it's usually easy to verify that it has nothing to do with me.

Brain: But what if there is?

Me: [sigh] You're incorrigible! I can't even deal with you right now. If we were in a room together I'd storm out and slam the door.
